Some brides and grooms choose to follow every wedding tradition and some opt to put their own spin on traditions. Not every bride and groom choose to have a traditional wedding cake. Cupcakes began showing up at weddings a few years ago as alternatives to a tiered cake, and dessert options have grown from there. The other options still give guests a wedding treat to enjoy after dinner, but bring something new to the reception as well. With this in mind, here are some of the best places in Dallas/Fort Worth to find wedding cake alternatives.

Society Bakery
3426 Greenville Ave.
Dallas, TX 75206

Cupcakes can be placed on stacked tiers to simulate the shape of a traditional tiered wedding cake. They do eliminate the cake-cutting fee that many caterers and bakeries charge. If a couple still wants to perform a traditional cake-cutting, they can have a small cake made to be cut and smeared on each other’s faces. Society Bakery’s flavors are constantly changing from favorites like red velvet to wedding options like pink champagne. They also donate some of their profits to over 100 charities every year, meaning that these cupcakes help not just your sweet tooth, but society as well.

Toni Rivard Cakeballs

Frisco, TX 75034

Cake balls are made with a combination of cake, frosting, and other sweet mix-ins, all rolled together, covered in icing, and served on a stick. Although they sound like a mess, they are in fact fancy enough for a wedding, while still fun for even the youngest guest. They take a lot of time and patience to get the ingredients and combinations just right, but the professionals at Toni Rivard Cakeballs have it down. They are experts at making the bite-sized cake-on-a-stick dessert known as cake balls. They are located in Stonebriar Mall, as well as North Park Center in Dallas.

Romano’s Bakery
6465 E. Mockingbird Lane, Suite 320
Dallas, TX 75214
(214) 821-5056

Baby bundt cakes are a little-known and unique dessert. They look just like their big sister counterparts, but are closer to the size of a cupcake. They come in a variety of melt-in-your-mouth flavors. Romano’s carries all types of desserts, but is best known for its wedding cakes displayed heavily through the store window and throughout the lobby. They also make cheesecakes, and yes, bundt cakes. A version of these cakes in miniature form lends itself to the ease of cupcakes, with a flair for a black-tie occasion.

A candy bar for dessert leaves open a lot of options. It can be open after dinner as a dessert, late in the night for a snack, or as guests are leaving as a wedding favor. Whatever time it’s set out, guests typically have a small bag and walk along the table, scooping their favorite sweets. You can stick to only candies in your wedding colors, candy with love-related names, or any theme you choose. Miss Molly’s Toy and Candy Shop is a good place to start looking because they have hard-to-find candy like Razzles, as well as penny candy to fill your bowls.
